The Less Real Ego of Rick Gardiner
July 13, 2015

Ok I cheated, this was actually written and posted yesterday, but dated for today. You might even be reading it "yesterday". The sentiment is totally still there though. I wish I could say the past 2 years have been eventful, but it's only been in the past couple months that things have been happening. I'll get to that right away, then I'll be boring.

Me and my buds decided to make a game together a few months ago! It's been pretty crazy so far. Not much money, but I've always seen money as secondary to doing what I really want to do. My parents definitely hate that mentality but I'm sure they get it. We went from having fun messing around in Unity, to having an actual game on Steam, with actual people buying it!

What could this be?
What could this be?

It's Polyball! I'll get the store page plug out of the way. Turns out all I needed to do was leech of other people's motivation to actually get something...

I've been dabbling my feet in a lot of projects lately, but I just got a job a few weeks ago so my off-time has been even more lazy than usual. Since I have a job now, I've been able to funnel some money into Steam. And holy jeezy wheez was I surprised to see a couple games on there. Final Fantasy 7 and Sonic Adventure 2. I've been craving some FF7 for a long time, but unfortunately haven't played it yet. I need like 50 hours dumped into it at once, and I have other things I wanna do right now. Sonic on the other hand, is good to play in short bursts (and it was 50% off, thanks Gaben). Obviously there was only one part of the game I really cared about...

I woke him up from a nap to take this pic.

This here is ??Mo?. He loves long runs on the beach and climbing mountains. Everything in Sonic revolves around getting stuff for your Chao, every ring you collect, every emblem you unlock. I totally forgot how fun the actual game is because all I reme...

...Three months later...

I've been pretty dedicated to this latest project of mine, sequel to the online popular hit sensation, Superlympics 3D!

ARE YOU READY???
ARE YOU READY???

There's a site for it too; well, a subdomain. I'll start posting updates on there when things start rolling, but for now I'm gonna keep it low profile and have a few people help me test it. There will be 4 games inside of the Superlympics, plus a major event. I'll make a post about each game, starting with this post's game, Creature Battle!

This game is a 3v3 turn-based battle game. You create and train creatures, put them into teams and fight against your friends and foes. Learn new skills as you level up, and gear up your creatures as you cash in!

The mechanics are pretty much a glorified Rock Paper Scissors battle. There are 3 kinds of skills which form a RPS triange, Offense < Defens...

I guess this might be a bit bias since I'm a programmer and I love databases, but I hate the whole "I'M NOT A NUMBER" attitude. Being a number is probably the most unique thing ever. In the sense that these hippies are against, the reason you're a number is so that there's a form of identification that no one else ever was, and will ever be. There are 124020 Davids, but there's only one 2148532.

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is coming out soon. I really wanted my TF2 Sniper to have an AWP, so I prepurchased it on a whim yesterday, which gives access to the beta. I haven't played much yet, but the game seems to be mostly just an engine upgrade. This is fine for CS though. There are a couple new game modes, Arms Race and Demolition. They're both run off the idea of getting kills to upgrade your weapons, instead of buying them.

Arms Race is just a crazy deathmatch with no respawn time. Every time you get a kill, your weapon instantly upgrades. This means you never really have to relo...

Time is speeding up exponentially. A month used to feel like a month, now it feels like a week. I don't know if this is because the laws of physics are changing, or this is just some age thing.

So I finally bought Minecraft last week... um, month. I'd been pirating it since then. All apologies to Notch and the Mojangstas. So to celebrate, I made a skin!

Stylin' to the MAX
Stylin' to the MAX

Haven't played much since buying it, mainly because I'm waiting for the Mod API to drop. Very interested to see what they do with the vanilla game after the whole world defaces it in their own face.

Zapper is approaching the half done point! Got 16 out of the 50 songs done. I really didn't realize how hard it was gonna get. I listen to it almost every day just to try to keep a good direction on it. I'm noticing the sounds of the songs are almost grouped up by tuning. It started in standard tuning, but after breaking the high E sting 4 tracks in, I started experimenting with tu...
